Peavy is a traditional logging tool handle with a metal spike protruding
from the end. The spike is rammed into a log, then a hook (at the
end of an arm attached to a pivot a short distance up the handle)
grabs the log at a second location. Once engaged, the handle gives
the operator leverage to roll or slide or float the log to a new
position. Dixie Industries Peavys feature handles turned from select
White Mountain Hickory air dried to 18% moisture content, then precision
fitted with the finest tool available to the industry. Duckbill
Hooks are drop forged high carbon steel with the bill ground to
a fine point. Drawn carbon steel socket, and a pick forged from
high carbon steel before being solidly driven into the handle. The
socket is held securely in place with a special retaining tab forged
into the pick.
