The naturalistic carving of 17th-Century woodworker Grinling Gibbons serves as the inspiration for the Williamsburg Garland Collection. Master carver to Charles II, Gibbons was commissioned to create architectural ornamentation-paneling, mantels and fireplace surrounds for such noteworthy building projects as St. Paul's Cathedral, Hampton Court and Windsor Castle.
